Aloha! My name is Joyceline Kim, also known as “Aunty Joyce” to many students at HMA Windward.  After being a volunteer for many years at HMA-WC directing the choir, organizing Christmas programs and Vacation Bible Schools, and being the Kindergarten teacher, I am so delighted to now serve as the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher.

Born and raised in Hawaii, I graduated from Hawaiian Mission Academy, attended Pacific Union College, and graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 1989.  I am currently working on my teaching certification through South Western Adventist University in Keene, Texas.

My husband, Dr. Russell Kim D.D.S., also an HMA alumnus, and I have three wonderful sons; two of which are attending Southern Adventist University in Tennessee and our youngest at HMA high-school campus in Honolulu.  My desire to teach young ones grew from the enjoyment of homeschooling my children and the many years of working with elementary school students.

Creativity nurtured through teaching literature, art, and music is my passion and I believe that imagination can be incorporated into every subject making learning fun and meaningful.

Exploring, discovering, and being inspired are the “A -ha!” moments when learning and understanding collide and this is priceless!  My goal is for young students to discover the joy in learning and to develop confidence and positive self-esteem as they partner with and grow in Jesus.

It is the work of true education to develop this power, to train the youth to be thinkers, and not mere reflectors of other men’s thought.
