EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

FOR ALL STUDENTS WHO REGISTER

Extracurricular activities provide students the opportunity to learn more about topics that interest them and to develop new skills. These activities compliment and enhance the school curriculum and help students become well-rounded individuals. Extracurricular activities teach students about responsibility and commitment and also give them the chance to practice teamwork and develop leadership skills.

At Hawaiian Mission Academy Windward Campus we offer extracurricular activities across a range of topics and disciplines including music, art, martial arts, sports and cultural studies. Specific activities may include private music lessons, clay creation classes, Karate, hula, basketball, soccer, volleyball, media class and reading club.

1

KARATE CLASS

Karate benefits both the mind and the body. It teaches students self-defense and also helps increase self-confidence and build self-esteem. In this after school activity on Tuesday afternoons, students ages 6 improve their physical fitness and mental focus as they learn karate techniques and skills.

2

HULA CLASS

Through music and dance, hula celebrates and shares the stories, traditions and culture of Hawaii. One Friday afternoon each month, keiki and their families meet at the beach for a chance to learn hula relevant to Kailua and caring for our island home. Families can enjoy time at the beach together, building friendships and soaking up the beauty of nature.

3

CLAY CLASS

Working with clay gives students a chance to explore and express their creative side. Clay classes are held every Monday after school. Students develop gross and fine motor skills as they learn how to pinch, coil, sculpt, carve, slab and decorate clay. Students also enjoy team building activities sharing their creations.

4

READING CLUB

Reading is a great way to exercise the brain and is a great way to acquire knowledge. Reading increases vocabulary, enhances memory, improves critical thinking skills and boosts concentration. And reading can be lots of fun! Our reading club meets after school and aims to help students get excited about reading and make it a habit that will help them to become lifelong learners.
